Ruben Centre welcomes visitors and volunteers to get involved with our programs. We specifically look for professional volunteers in the areas of education, health, and community development. Accommodation is provided in a three-bedroom unit for volunteers. Read more details below or Contact Us with any questions you may have. Visitors are invited to have a tour of Ruben Centre. Half a day or a day will give you a great understanding of the work that we are doing.

Who We Are

Ruben Centre is a faith-based organization striving for an empowered and just Mukuru community by providing quality education, health, financial and social services to children and families in Mukuru community. The Ruben Centre is a non-profit, charity organization run by the Christian Brothers African Province. It is one of eight Christian Brother’s project sites across Africa, and offers educational, health and community development programmes to the residents of one of the largest slums in Nairobi (known as both the Ruben Slum as well as Mukuru community).

Ruben Centre and (United Nations Food Agriculture Organization) UNFAO have an MOU   to work together to deliver Urban farming to some youth groups in Nairobi slums as well as the Kalobeyei refugee settlement in Northern Kenya.It was for this purpose that I travelled on an ECHO flight sponsored by European Union to Kakuma, a remote place 100 kilometers south of the Kenya South Sudan border. To have this short term (six months) project work well I needed to get a feel for the climate, the physical environment and of course the people we would be working with.
