Inaugural Ruben Primary School Board of Management Meeting

The members of the newly created School Management Board met for the first time at Ruben Centre on June 14th.

Most members were present including the Embakasi District Education officer Ms. Lucy Ojoo

Chair Br. Frank welcomed all members to the meeting and the secretary and head Teacher Ms. Scolastica Opiyo presented the agenda.

Agenda items were many and included a review of Academic performance, staffing issues and a thorough examination of the task and role of the Board as per expectations of the National Ministry of Education.

One of these expectations is the establishment of working sub committees.

Sub committees include:

  1. Finance, procurement and Development.
  2. Academic and environment.
  3. Discipline, ethics and integrity.
  4. Audit and best practices.
  5. Human rights and student welfare.

Membership of these sub committees was determined and each subcommittee was challenged by the District Education Officer to meet as soon as possible and agree on their goals, objectives and way of operating and communicating.

Given that the full board is only mandated to meet at least three times each year, any real achievements will happen at the sub committee level.

Time will tell all.

Chair

Br. Frank O’Shea
