Director’s New January 2015

The New Year is upon us, the task is big, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. I am buoyed by today’s feast of the baptism of Jesus, where Jesus after much soul searching and struggling, walked down to the Jordan river, and in doing so took on the job of proclaiming and living God’s dream for our world. As I walked into church this morning I was stopped in my tracks as the sun came up at 6.43 am and I was invited to believe it is ‘ the heavens opening and I /Ruben Centre will be favoured if I can live my motto of the my recent retreat,’ Use me up Lord. So here we go 2015. Already Ruben Centre is living being used up. All programs began on Monday January 5th.

Director’s news for December

December 2014
Director’s news for December as the curtain falls on another year. School for the year ended with staff gathering for a day out on the ‘ nice’ side of town. I joined them and we did a SWOT analysis and it looked at where the school is now and what might emerge at the beginning of 2015 when the school’s make over is complete. A positive was that staff identified 57 strengths with only 16 weaknesses. Another highlight of the day was the staff choosing the teacher of the year. This is a new initiative and it was an engaging process where Matthew KIkuvi emerged with the award. Teacher of Year Award’s Profile.

Heavy Rains at Mukuru kwa Ruben

Director’s News 24th November 2014
Ruben Centre is still standing despite some heavy rains last week. About 70 houses and the bridge across the river did not survive the torrents of water that followed the downpour. We had visitors from the third Gone Fishing tour from Australia. Thanks to Anthony Ryan for creating this initiative and of course to all those who generousily gave their all to attend and get immersed in life here. Ruben Centre continues to enjoy rave reviews from people who visit. Board members from another donor group Misean Cara ( Ireland )   also spent some time at Ruben Centre. Thanks Paul, Pauline, Matt and Andy for your visit and of course we are indebted for the recurrent funding that Ruben centre is enjoying from Misean Cara.
