One of the most beautiful traits I will go away with from Ruben Centre is the spirit of selfless giving. The Centre has this aura of being a church and a true church for that matter that touches the core of humanity and is a living testimony of the ways and love of Christ.
This has turned out to be the way of life/culture at Ruben Centre. This was clearly depicted during the Easter season where the staff of Ruben Centre united to contribute towards Easter basket event. This is an annual event that was established to help very needy children among us to put a smile on them during Easter holidays. Easter is also that season that not only people commemorate the death and resurrection of Christ, but also gather together with families and friends to make merry. Some of our children in our primary school come from very humble families where having three or even two meals a day is considered a luxury. It is with this in mind that the brains behind Easter basket felt we could do something as staff by contributing money or in-kind toward helping needy children amongst us.
The event, which was held on The 24th of March, was very successful with 300 children benefiting. A section of parents also contributed and attended the event. Each beneficiary received cooking oil, a kilo of maize and beans each, vegetables, clothes, eggs etc. The gymnastics and dance groups were not left behind either, they offered their best as they put their best leg forward in their sizzling performance’s as their unique gift to these children.
The joy on the children’s faces was immense, as they knew this Easter holiday was going to be different. They took so much pride as they showed off their gift hampers to their colleagues. The gifts may have looked small in the eyes of many but to these children it was an early Christmas.
This event made me to be very proud as a member of Ruben Centre staff and I’m sure the feeling is mutual among all my colleagues. As I conclude I want to thank all my colleagues for their big hearts and for being the eyes and hands of Christ by reaching out to the needy amongst us. May this spirit continue to be alive in our hearts.
