WAVES TRUST SCHOLARSHIP CHANGED MY LIFE

Waves scholarship program came as a big surprise to me after toping my Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) National Examination class of 2007 at Ruben Primary School. The scholarship gave me a chance to attend Secondary school on a four year deal with my school fees assured. I remember I went to form one in Dagoretti High school one of best provisional School in Nairobi with a cheque paying my full year school fees something had not contemplated that would happen to me.
For me life in high school was quite Smooth despite a few challenges that come with being away from home but in regard to school fees, I do not remember a single day that i was sent home because of fee arrears because waves Trust Family got me covered. At times it used to pain my heart seeing some of my closest friends in high school being sent home due to school fees arrears and they would miss lessons for weeks but all the same, this made me realise how blessed I was to have Waves Trust Scholarship.
For four years the Waves scholarship paid for my fees and it used to give me so much hope because I knew there was a possibility of a university Scholarship if I did well in my Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).So everyday I worked hard so as not to miss a golden opportunity to join university and pursue my dreams. After my KCSE results were out, I had managed to score a good grade that secured me a University Scholarship with Waves. Again this was a God given opportunity considering where I came from ( Mukuru slums). I had to make the best out of it. I did the university selection and amazingly Moi university admitted me to pursue a four year degree course in project management and planning. Life is campus was quite different from one in high school, here I met students from different parts of the country some who became close friends, roommates and even mentors
In my four year stay at the university Waves support played an integral role in molding the kind Man I have become today. Fees always came on time and when i needed something extra, like a laptop to help me in doing my University project, The Waves family was always willing to look at my request and support it. The best experience about the scholarship was when Waves family used to find time to come to Kenya from England just to visit us, where we would catch up share our experiences on our lives in High school and at the university. At the end of the four years, I graduated with a good class which was the best gift and repayment i would give to the waves Family. Waves Scholarship program is not just a Scholarship but it is more of a family and when you get the scholarship, you are assured that your life will change for the better. Through getting education, I have become a better person and I am currently doing a job search and I believe that once I get a job, I will be able to support my family and siblings and get them out of the slums.
As Nelson Mandela said, Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world and Ephrahim Nzangi is joining in to bring change to the world and most especially to the communities in the slums of Mukuru where I was born and raised. I will initiate projects in the slums in an effort to make life bearable for people living in the slums.
So far Waves Scholarship is the best thing that has ever happened to me and to the Ruben Centre and it has been the most successful program. I am appealing to more donors and partners to support the Oasis of Hope Scholarship which has supported many poor children in the slums and today they are able to stand on their feet. I also pass Many regards to Malcom , Margaret and John for walking with me to achieving my dreams. I will always make you proud.Thats a promise!
