WATER AND HEALTH

Doctors and science its self have told us that taking at least six glasses of water a day is healthy, and well some of us do that while others struggle to even get one glass of water down their throats.
With this rainy season it’s very important for us to ensure that we are very careful with the water we consume, because as much as its healthy if we do consume water that has not been treated then it will bring health issues. Now by treatment we really do not mean that you consume the bottled water from the shops and supermarkets, let’s be honest we have also heard cases where people consumed that water and ended up in hospitals.
Personally I think that some of the health problems we bring to ourselves can now be avoided with the Kohler clarity water filter distributed in Mukuru Kwa Ruben by NEW SONG OUTREACH and its partners DROP OF MERCY, USA and WATER MISSION, KENYA. The water treatment or purification methods that have not worked for so long or cost a lot of money to implement will be the thing of the past thanks to the Kohler Clarity filter that has brought a smile on the faces of the people in Mukuru Kwa Ruben, Mariguini, Fatah Nyayo, Kayaba, Kissi village and Mukuru kwa Njenga
New Song Outreach International is located in South B and they are the authorized distributor of the Kohler clarity filter by the Ministry of Health to low income communities in the slums of Nairobi. They have been distributing the filters at a subsidized price of 1000/= to only meet costs of bringing it to Kenya from the USA. The real retail price for any water filter on market in Nairobi is 6000/= to 10,00/= for one. So, this filter is here to improve the health of our people who could not have been able to afford it at its business retail price of 6000/= in a supermarket around Nairobi. “Partnering with Ruben Centre has been of great importance to us especially when we know that we are saving lives. Poor hygiene and sanitation diseases account for 60% of all consultations made at most local clinics in the slums around Nairobi and also water borne diseases are the number one cause of death in Children under the age of five” Says Douglas Mukisa Director and overseer of the Kohler Filter Project In Mukuru in Nairobi.
In the last 7 months they have installed Kohler Clarity Filters in 2500 homes in Mukuru with an average of 4 - 6 people in home that means roughly 15,000 people in Mukuru now have access to drinking water within their homes and they say the response and the feedback from the community has been amazing. Also, they have donated several filters to schools within Mukruru Kwa Ruben to make sure Children have access to safe drinking water while at school. Says Valerie
These filters are distributed at a giveaway price of only one thousand Kenya shillings on which same price 300/= is paid to C.H.Vs for each filter they install creating job opportunities for them. The Kohler Clarity filter is worldly known and celebrated in over 40 countries around the world. So, we have a golden opportunity to keep our families safe and healthy let us embrace good hygiene and save ourselves from diseases they say prevention is better than cure.
