The Ruben primary school does not only focus on academic excellence only but also focuses on nurturing the wide range of talents exhibited among the children in our school and in the slums of Mukuru. They try and make sure that their students benefit from all angles. In the modern world, education is not the only thing that is helping people stand out in life.
We also have those who have made it in life through growing their talents. There are a variety of talents that the Ruben primary school focuses on and that are sports, music, young farmers, Environment club, rights club, journalism club gymnastics among others.
Gladys Kamwana is a class seven student at Ruben primary who participates in the girl’s football matches. She started playing soccer when she was in class four and managed to go up to the regional levels. Now Gladys kamwana will be representing the Nairobi County at the national levels which will be held in Nyeri from the 28th of July to the 4th of August. “I am much honored to be representing Nairobi County at the Nationals. It has always been a dream of mine that one day I would be a professional footballer, like Selena Williams but in this case I would be a Selena in football.”
She goes ahead and tells me that selena Williams is her all time favorite sports lady and her role model. “I play as a midfielder and there is nothing that fills me with joy other than being in the field.” She is such a nice young girl and a very talented. We wish you all the best Gladys and your team. May victory be yours. The boys also had their matches and managed to go all the way to the regional levels and for that we also appreciate them for it.
Not only does the school engage in sports competition they also engage in music competition. The school started engaging in music competitions in the year twenty thirteen and since then they have had a couple of victories.
This year the music group is also competing in the inter schools music competitions and so far they have managed to go up to the regional level with various items such as; traditional dances, poems, chanting and musical instruments.
With all this co-curriculum activities that the school has put up it encourages the students to work and explore all corners of their lives for one may never know to which might bring success in his/her life. It also makes the students become responsible at a very young age for they learn how to make decisions and balance their time to fit both their class work and the activities, not forgetting that they also get to know their cultures and other cultures.
