Every four years the world experiences a global sporting event known as the FIFA World Cup that always has us on toes to watch and cheer for our favorite teams. This year the world cup as we all know has been happening for a month in Russia and finally came to an end on the 15th of July 2018 with France having their second win since the World Cup started. Their first win was in the year 1998.
The FIFA World Cup is a way of bringing people together from all over the world and from different races, in some way we could say that as much as it is a recreational activity it helps eliminate racism for people join in together and have a good time without conflicting with others.
Ruben Centre through our local radio station Ruben FM was not also left out on watching and cheering for our favorite teams. Neither did we leave our community behind for the radio station did live commentating and live screening of the football matches. In total Ruben FM commentated on 59 matches out of the 64 matches that were played.
Through the commentating and live screening of the world cup the community had much fun and this also increased the target audience for the radio. This also brought pride and joy to the Ruben FM staff for they were living by their slogan which is uniting the community (‘Unganisha Jamii’) and by them commentating and live screening matches they brought together people from different wards.
The Ruben FM also started their friendly matches which took place during the world cup duration. The matches were dubbed as Ruben FM Russia 2018. With this being a new error where gender equality is key the matches were not limited to the men’s teams only but also involved ladies teams. The matches kicked off from the semi-finals with teams of eight men’s teams and eight ladies teams.
Later on after the quarter finals the teams proceeded to the semi finals with there being four men’s teams and four ladies teams. Ruben FM had looked for a couple of organizations to partner with them and help sponsor this matches and in return the organizations would have their products promoted at the Ruben FM website, free mentions during the per hour news bulletin and free two weeks on air advertisement after the world cup.
The teams that managed to go through to the finals were Paygo vs. Kydf for the men’s team and for the ladies team we had Ruben FM vs. sky movers the winners (Paygo and Ruben FM) were awarded a cash prize and other gifts for the players. They were also invited for the live screening of the world cup finals. The community showed high levels of maturity and respect to the Ruben FM staff and the Ruben Centre in general and this radio station staff much joy to do such projects in the near future.
