Plenty happening in January i decided we needed to lift up the school play ground and put some drainage in place. Well the work had only been completed about one week when biblical like rains came. Across the nation, people, houses and roads were swept away. The Reuben slum was nearly submerged and the mess made national news. However through it all Ruben Centre stayed above the water line.
I am grateful for the donations i received while in Australia and which made this work possible. Administration staff have been busy trying to prepare proposals for donors and to welcome old donors to the centre. This week both Edmund Rice Development office and Misean Cara of Ireland will be visiting. There are high hopes of some funds.
One of the new projects we have been busy with is the preparation of the birthing unit. The demand for this unit from both the mothers to be, and the sub county health officials has been relentless so i have finally given in to it. We have built a small extension onto the clinic, have some equipment donated from Australia coming, and now left to dream of an ambulance being donated. School completed their first term on Friday and now with a blink of an eye the first quarter of 2018 has just concluded as is Easter. You can also read my Easter story for more insights.
