The third week of January we were privileged to have a couple that was volunteering at Ruben Medical Clinic. The most amazing thing about this couple is that they offered their honeymoon break to volunteer at our facility a kind gesture of humility, love and generosity to the less fortunate. Alex is a paramedic and Sarah an occupational therapist.
Working at Ruben was a rather a new and a learning experience for both of them. They were impressed by the level of efficiency and dedication given the limited resources the clinic has. As Alex put it “it is a great experience more than I would ever learn.” Alex worked with our nurses and clinical officers in the consultation and treatment rooms while Sarah worked with children with different disabilities. Sarah as well was impressed by the level of efficiency and how well the OT clinic improvised using readily available materials to help the children with different conditions. They also participated in the polio vaccination campaign where they went from door to door to administer the vaccine. This gave them a real picture of the level of poverty and destitution some people live in and it was such a humbling experience for them.
