World Radio Day 2024

On World Radio Day, February 13th, Ruben FM partnered with the African Population and Health Research Centre (APHRC) to move beyond mere celebrations and delve into governance and social accountability. Utilizing its "off-station" broadcasting equipment, Ruben FM embarked on a roadshow aimed at empowering the community through interactive radio discussions.

Over the years, the community radio station has emerged as a vital resource, offering solutions and addressing critical issues such as governance, community development, youth and women empowerment, and family growth. This year's World Radio Day theme, "a century informing, entertaining, and educating," resonated with Ruben FM's mission of uniting the community. Beyond providing entertainment and information, the station has fostered trust by serving as a platform for holding leaders accountable and driving positive change. To commemorate this special day, Ruben FM organized an event in the Mukuru community with the aim of empowering and informing residents. By promoting communication and engagement, they seek to equip the community with the knowledge and resources necessary to achieve shared goals.

Rather than targeting bustling streets, the roadshow focused on areas where voices often go unheard. Skilled presenters facilitated open conversations, posing pointed questions about the radio station and the governance of the area. Our talented dancers ignited community spirit with their infectious energy, inviting everyone to participate in the celebratory movement. The smiles were wide, the laughter contagious, and the atmosphere filled with energy.

Of course, no celebration is complete without a token of appreciation. Throughout the roadshow, fortunate community members walked away with exciting prizes. Women received beautiful shawls, adding vibrant color to their wardrobes, while others cheered with delight upon winning coveted airtime credit. These small tokens expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of our listeners, who make our daily shows so special.

This World Radio Day at Ruben FM wasn't just about celebrating the medium; it was about celebrating the connections it fosters, the voices it amplifies, and the positive impact it can have on the lives it touches. It was a day filled with joy, laughter, and a renewed sense of appreciation for the community they serve.
