April 5th 2019, is the D-day for Embakasi South Constituency where the constituents will get an opportunity to reconsider their leadership choices based on the 'Mukuru they Want' . This is following nullification of the former Member of Parliament on the grounds of rigging the previous election conducted on 8th August 2017. Even as the contestants intensify their campaigns, the common mwananchi continues to express concern over lack of enough development, corruption in public offices, nepotism among other key concerns.
Recently, most specifically on Sunday, March 10 2019,an article on the Daily Nation published a shocking story of a school bus worth millions having been purchased using Embakasi South (Constituency Development Fund) CDF and granted to a private secondary school based in Mukuru. The school bus was later converted to a PSV (Public Service Vehicle) operating in the City. It is in the same constituency that a toilet built using CDF kitty to help the community to access proper toilets was also sold and converted into a shop. Seriously?
Is the by-election going to bring a better fortune to Embakasi South or will it be the same analogy of the 'Same monkey different forest'? Robert Alai, a Kenyan blogger, internet entrepreneur and cyber-activist recently referred to Embakasi South residents as fools who will elect the same rotten leaders to keep looting their taxes through his Facebook post which ends by the sentiments" Kenya is Such a screwed Country". I personally think it is time for Slum dwellers to make a good choice of a leader whose stomach is already full and has got no space to fit poor Kenyan's money designated for development but the question still remains, Is there any out there? "Ni Aibu Kubwa" .Well, We can only wait and see.
