New Dawn
After a period of 10 years, Ruben Centre is graced with a new Director. The neck to neck race started in 2019 after the incumbent Director, Br. Frank O’Shea, made the announcement that he will be retiring at the end of 2020.
He, Br. Frank, insisted that the Ruben Centre is in Kenya and therefore should be run by Kenyans. The application was rolled out this year on 8th August and 137 applicants were shortlisted. The interview panel went on to cut off 131 applicants to remain with five in September 2020. After two interviews, oral and written, the candidates were further shortlisted and only three made it to the final interviews. Out of the three was one lady and this went a long way to show how Ruben Centre is gender sensitivity.
The final interviews were held on 22nd October and after a two weeks wait, the announcement of the new leader was made by Br. Tony Shanahan to most of the Ruben Centre staff. In his 10 minute speech, Br. Tony expressed on how he the selection of Mr. Nicholas Makau was made to Ruben Centre’s best interest. Mr. Makau who is no stranger to the organization has had oversight for one of the Centre’s partner Lea Toto. As a matter of fact he facilitated the partnership of the two organizations back in 2007.
Br. Tony went to express his disappointment in the rumors & gossip following the appointment of the new Director. He attributed the ill behaviors to perhaps anxiety and uncertainty among a few staff members. The District Leader went on to give a clarion call to ALL Ruben Centre stakeholders to walk with the new Director and to give their utmost loyalty & support. He concluded by giving a vote of confidence towards Mr. Makau alluding the future of the organization being in safe hands as of January 1st 2021.
A warm special welcome to Mr. Makau and we are all looking forward to working with you in the near future.
“No good leader can lead without followers,” Br. Tony Shanahan
