Leadership & Leader-sheep
On the 7th of January 2022, Ruben Centre held an introductory meeting among its staff members. The meeting chaired by the Director had a myriad of issues raised by staff members, issues they (the staff) believe should be addressed moving forward for effective service delivery. A follow up staff meeting was held on Monday the 10th, this bringing the different departmental leaders together.
Leadership
The follow up meeting began with the Director emphasizing how the log frame formulated towards the closure of the year 2021 needed an implementation matrix. The Director went on further to state how he would like to employ the “bottom-up” criteria for staff appraisals. Led by our Monitoring and Evaluation officer, Tony Okolla, each project’s goals for the year were displayed and the department heads weighed in on whether the goals were achievable or far-fetched.
It was also brought up that the goals were not cast on stone, therefore subject to change when need be. For instance, new infrastructure for the school, training of Ruben Primary teachers on the new curriculum and benchmarking were some of the areas of focus for 2022 for the school. Continued support of existing activities such as the feeding program and other activities was also brought up.
As for the Human Development and Skills Training Program, the need to empower more youth through vocational training was highly focused on. As for Ruben Health Centre, it was noted how better service delivery for the people of Mukuru was pivotal. More weekly and monthly meetings would be held to monitor how effective the goals are being worked on.
Leader-sheep
In the same sitting but in a different mood, the Director shifted gears to how better he would work with all his staff members in 2022. Mr. Nicholas was keen on how he would like to sit with each department and their representatives separately and implement their various workplans.
He confessed how in 2021 he stood the test of time and now with a clearer mind he is ready to make relevant changes in order to better serve the Mukuru community. “I believe in working the staff of Ruben Centre to build their skills and socially improve them. I want to turn them from dependents to self-dependent,” said Nicholas in a closed-door interview.
In conclusion, there is a sense of new beginning among the new staff. Just like the proverbial Phoenix, Ruben Centre is ready to rise from the ashes of 2021 and fly to better skies of 2022.
