Experiences at RC by Charles & Saviour
Ruben Centre has been privileged to host two more Christian Brothers for the past week and a half. Here is what their experiences have been so far of the place.
Charles Ndung’u
“When I heard I was being placed at Ruben Centre for the Pastoral Immersion experience, I was thrilled. I had previously been to the organization in 2021 just for a day but I fell in love with the place. Upon arriving at Ruben Centre, the HR welcomed us and gave us free will to choose the department we felt comfortable working at. I chose the Kurt Fearnley Special Needs Unit because of the passion I have for helping the children with various special needs. So far, I must commend the Ruben Health Centre. Their services to the people of Mukuru need no evaluation to know how effective they are. The staff are dedicated to offer the best support they can to the different clients and that is basically doing God’s work. I must say that the orchestra too caught my eye, and ear. The children of Ruben Primary School are talented and considering their backgrounds, I was astonished by the way they played their instruments. Indeed, it does not matter where one comes from, all that matters is they know where they are going. What I will carry with me is that we should nurture talents as they are God’s gifts to us.”

“What a delight it has been to work with the staff of Ruben Centre for the people of Mukuru. Initially, my briefing of Ruben Centre was that it is a ridiculously busy place because it was in a capital city. Although, the word “slum” was being thrown around and when I googled the word my interest was fueled more. When I got to Ruben Centre, I was a bit confused because what was displayed online about informal settlements and what Mukuru kwa Reuben was were two contrasting things. I was drawn back even more when I entered Ruben Centre and met these well-spoken people who seemed to be busy with something, always. During my orientation, I interacted with most of the staff in all departments and my mind was blown. It has been almost one and a half weeks at Ruben Centre but the experience gained feels like I have been here for a couple of years. I have built knowledge on things I knew and others that I didn’t. Ruben Centre has shaped my thinking on what I would like to concentrate on during my studies. Given another chance, I would definitely choose Ruben Centre. The biggest prize I have gotten is the art of interacting with different people. Ruben Centre is rich in diversity and with each person you will undoubtedly pick something noteworthy. I love Kenya’s chapati and kuku.”
