March Centre Meeting: Gender Equity & Gender Equality

On the 15th of March 2023, Ruben Centre staffs gathered for the monthly program leaders’ Centre Meeting to highlight the wins and setbacks of the past month. The meeting was steered by RC Director Br. Frank O’Shea and featured 14 key staff members, representing different all programs; that is Education, Health, Social Economic Empowerment Through Education, Organizational Capacity as well Advocacy & Networking.

The meeting began with a gender sensitization training on the backdrop of International Women's Day 2023 as well as Ruben Centre’s stance on gender equity & equality among its staff. During the IWD celebration’s commemorated annually on 8th of March, Ruben Centre leadership organized a gathering to celebrate all the female staff working at the organization. A total of 105 female staff, from all projects as well partners hosted at Ruben Centre, gathered at the Ruben Centre Hall and a cohort of 5 was appointed to highlight what it means to be a female staff at Ruben Centre.  According RC Human Resource records, female staff account for 55% of the total employees. In another instance AEF Ruben Primary & Junior Secondary Schools’ population is slightly dominated by more female students, with 1625 of them out of 3200 students. With regards to RC projects’ leadership, the schools, Ruben Health Centre, Human Development and Skills Training Program, RISE program, Networking & Advocacy, Social as well the Urban Farming project are all led by skilled and qualified women. This means that RC is compliant to government requirement of workplaces to uphold the two- thirds gender rule.

Another agenda was on the RC staff work plan. RC Programs Manager Tony Okola stated that the work plans are in the finalizing stages and should be ready before end of December. He went on to thank all department heads for working with him to develop the workplans. He added that the compilation of the 2023 quarter-one report has already started and should be finalized by the first week of April.

The meeting was completed with some good news about the salary increment from the Human Resource Manager Chrescent Embebe. The increment meant that all staff at Ruben Centre will receive a minimum of 3000 salary increments to cater to the high cost of living. Ruben Centre Director Br. Frank finished off by thanking all the staff and encouraging them to work in unison for the success of Ruben Centre.

Live Jesus, in our hearts. Forever!
